Camp Bastion, the huge U.S. and British military complex in Southern Afghanistan has been handed over to the control of Afghan security forces 13 years after foreign troops intervened in the country to topple the Taliban.
The European Banking authority has said that 24 of the Eurozone’s biggest banks have failed a stress test and 13 of them must find billions of dollars of new money. Italy has the highest number of banks on the list with four.
Ukrainians are voting on the first of parliamentary elections since the overthrow of the old pro-Russian leadership. President Poroshenko has urged them to make a break with the past and it is expected that pro-Western parties will do well.
Polling stations across Brazil have opened in the final round of the presidential elections there. The contest is expected to be the closest in years.
