The president of Liberia has warned that a whole generation of young Africans could be lost to an economic catastrophe caused by Ebola. In a letter recorded for the BBC, she appealed to all countries to help fight the outbreak.
Hong Kong’s leader C.Y. Leung has accused external forces of involvement in the territory’s pro-democracy protests. His claims are strongly denied by protesters. The activists are calling for fully democratic elections in Hong Kong. Student leaders and officials have agreed to hold talks on Tuesday. Those talks will be televised. Each side is supposed to be bringing five representatives to the table.
Indonesia’s new president Joko Widodo will be inaugurated later this Monday. Amongst the foreign dignitaries in attendance, the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry--the United States is keen to promote Indonesia as a rising power in Southeast Asia to counter China’s growing might.
