An Israeli missile strike close to a UN-run school in Gaza on Sunday has been condemned as a moral outrage and a criminal act by the UN Secretary-General. The U.S. said it was appalled by the attack, which killed at least ten people. Israel has called a seven hour humanitarian truce for most of Gaza, beginning in a few hours.
A massive search-and-rescue operation is underway to find survivors after a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Yunnan Province in Southwest China. More than 380 people were killed, at least 1,800 others injured and an estimated 12,000 homes destroyed.
Australia’s immigration minister says the parents of a baby who was born with Down syndrome to a surrogate mother in Thailand have a moral responsibility to bring him back to Australia. The boy is being raised by a surrogate mother. His twin sister was taken to Australia by the unidentified couple.
