Ukraine’s interior minister says that both sides suffered casualties during a raid launched by Ukrainian special forces on a police station in the eastern city of Slavyansk that was seized by pro-Russian gunmen. Arsen Avakov said the gunmen had opened fire on Ukrainian forces.
A U.N. report says if governments around the world make huge investments in renewable energy, catastrophic global warming can be averted without sacrificing living standards.
Eleven people have now been killed in a huge forest fire in Chile which has also destroyed more than 500 homes in the port city of Valparaiso. The fire is still burning and thousands of residents have now been evacuated.
