Australian officials have confirmed that two signals received by crew searching for missing Malaysia Airlines plane are consistent with those given off by black box flight recorders. They are urging caution though, until a link can be verified.
Voting is under way for parliamentary elections in India – the world’s largest democracy. More than 800 million people are eligible to vote; the first were in the Northeastern state of Assam. Results are not expected until mid-May.
Ukraine’s interim president has called an emergency meeting of his security chiefs to deal with growing unrest in the East of the country. Pro-Russian demonstrators stormed government buildings in three major cities.
And the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have arrived in Wellington at the start of their three-week tour of New Zealand and Australia. Baby Prince George who’s on his first foreign tour is, for many, likely to be the focus of the visit.
