The search area for the missing Malaysian jet liner has been widened after France's satellite images showed objects several hundred kilometers north of previous sightings. A total of ten planes, now including Chinese and Japanese aircraft, are currently sweeping an area of 68,000 square kilometers.
Turkey’s military has shot down a Syrian war plane, claiming it had violated the border and ignored warnings to turn back. Damascus described it as blatant aggression and said the plane was in Syrian airspace at the time. The incident occurred near a border crossing where Islamist rebels are fighting Syrian government forces.
The Supreme Military Commander of the western security alliance, NATO, has warned that Russia’s military buildup threatens not just Eastern Ukraine, but also Moldova. President Obama and other leaders of the G7 nations will discuss their options in an emergency meeting in Brussels on Monday.
Police have charged a 15 year old boy with murder following the shooting of a teenager in Hackney in East London. Shereka Fab-Ann Marsh was killed by a single gunshot wound to the neck.
