The United States warns airlines that terrorists may try to smuggle explosives in toothpaste tubes on planes bound for Russia. It comes as the country is on high alert for the Winter Olympics which have just begun.
The head of Egypt’s army says he will run for the presidency; this according to a Kuwaiti newspaper. Field marshal Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi had been expected to declare his candidacy. So far there hasn’t been any official confirmation from Egypt’s military.
The Panama Canal authority says work on a project to widen the important shipping route has been suspended because of a dispute over rising costs. The Spanish company leading the expansion project denied work had stopped.
And one of the largest chains of drug stores in The United States, CVS Caremark is to stop selling all tobacco products by October. It’s estimated it will cost the company around two billion dollars in annual revenue.
